CO2 Calculator

Rationale

Whenever we drive our cars we burn fossil fuels, which release CO2 into the atmosphere and contribute to global warming. By travelling on public transport we also contribute to global warming since trains, buses and flights are laid-on in response to demand.

The amount of CO2 emitted per person for a given journey varies greatly according to the mode of this transport. This calculator will show you the relative CO2 emissions associated with a journey so that you can decide if a less ‘carbon intensive’ option is practical.

Remember of course that the greenest mile is the one not travelled and that some journeys can be avoided altogether. For example, some international business meetings could be replaced with teleconferences and most of us could cut back on our overseas holidays.
